Neurable One Puts a Brain-Computer Interface Inside Premium Noise-Cancelling Headphones

Headphones that track your heart rate have been around for a while. Neurable is going a step further. The Boston-based neurotech company today announced Neurable One, a pair of premium wireless over-ear headphones with a built-in, non-invasive brain-computer interface that reads your brain activity while you listen, work or rest.

It’s also a milestone for Neurable: Neurable One is the first product the company has made entirely in-house, giving it control over both the hardware and the software. The timing lines up with a growing category. Neurable cites projections that the market for non-invasive BCI will nearly double, from about $398 million in 2025 to $777 million by 2033.

EEG sensors you can’t see

The headline feature is invisible. Neurable has woven 12 EEG sensors into the ear pads, so from the outside Neurable One looks like any other premium pair of cans. Those sensors pick up brain activity whenever you’re wearing the headphones with the app open, and the rebuilt Neurable app turns that signal into insights about focus, brain age, cognitive capacity and more.

What the app actually does

Brain data banking. Every session is recorded and stored, building a continuous history so you can see how your brain performance changes over weeks and months rather than just in the moment.

Focus sessions and real-time brain breaks. For deep work or study, the app tracks your focus live against your own personal baseline. When your attention starts to drift, it flags it and suggests a break based on what your brain is actually doing instead of a fixed timer. Neurable is clear that it only recommends; it never acts on your behalf. After each session, you get insights into when and how you focus best.

Eight cognitive metrics. The app tracks eight key metrics, including focus, cognitive speed and cognitive load. Each reading is shown against your own previous results, and consistent check-ins unlock weekly and monthly reports with recommendations.

Brain Battery. This new metric sits at the center of the app and estimates how much mental reserve you have left. It updates throughout the day, then rolls up week by week so patterns become visible.

Alpha Peak Frequency (APF). Another new insight, APF measures the frequency of your strongest resting brain rhythm, captured during a guided eyes-closed check-in.

Connecting brain data to the rest of your life

With your consent, Neurable One can combine its brain data with information from other wearables and health apps such as Apple Health. The resulting weekly and monthly reports look for long-term trends, like how your sleep and exercise may relate to your focus. You can also log lifestyle changes and watch how your trends shift afterward.

For the data-curious, Neurable lets you export your data and analyze it with your preferred AI tools, so you can ask questions about your own patterns.

Still a serious pair of headphones

Neurable hasn’t skimped on the audio side. Neurable One uses 40 mm beryllium drivers, active noise cancellation with an ambient listening mode, and six microphones. Connectivity is Bluetooth 5.2 with AAC and aptX support, and it works with both iOS and Android.

Battery life is rated at 22 hours of audio playback, or 12 hours with EEG active. USB-C fast charging gets you two hours of listening from a 15-minute top-up.

The build uses an aluminum frame, nylon ear pads housing the EEG sensors, and a vegan leather headband. It weighs 345 g (12 oz) and folds down to 200 × 195 mm for travel. Physical controls cover ANC modes, power and pairing, volume, and a multi-function button for playback, calls, track skipping and voice assistant.
